The CALM before the STORM

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

Otherwise known as... Traveling prior to Covid-19

Right after we returned from Europe and just before social distancing was put into place, Corey and I spent 4 days at Virginia Beach. Although too cold to enjoy the beach, there is still something so relaxing about waking up to the sounds of the beach when trying to decompress. Trust me! I needed a vacation from my previous vacation. We were non-stop in Europe. One day, Corey and I are going to rent an AirBnB and stay (in Paris) for the summer and live like Parisians. Countdown to an empty nest in 3-2-1 years. I still can’t believe my “baby” is a rising high school sophomore.

Anyway, back to Virginia Beach. For this trip, we stayed on a different “end” of beach (than we normally stay) and in a brand-new Hilton Hotel. Well, not exactly brand new. This Hilton, The DoubleTree by Hilton Virginia Beach South was formally a Ramada. They gutted the building and pretty much started over. It is located on the boardwalk of Virginia Beach and literally steps away from the sand and sea. The hotel has an indoor pool, fitness center, and even an oceanfront event space. There is an on-site market and a restaurant, Mahi’s. Mahi’s did not disappoint-for breakfast, lunch, nor dinner. And, do not forget the DoubleTree infamous chocolate chip cookie.

The rooms were beautifully decorated. It was a “nautical” theme but not too much. Sometimes, hotels can go overboard but this one was perfect. I especially like the ceiling. All rooms are waterfront with free wifi, mini-fridge, room safe, plenty of closet space, and desk/chair. I can’t wait to return when it’s warmer… and when it’s safe.

Until next time.... Live with no excuses, travel with no regrets!
